Can I use someone else's card-reader, even one from another bank or building society?

Yes, it's likely you can use someone else's card-reader as most bank issued card-readers are built to the same standards.

However, for Online Banking to work with a card-reader your account must be enhanced security enabled.

To enable your account for enhanced security you need to order a NatWest card-reader from your Online Banking service. After ordering the card-reader please allow 3 days for your account to be enabled.

To order a new card-reader:

  1. Access your Online Banking service at www.onlinebanking.natwestoffshore.com (opens in a new window)
  2. Select 'Security' from the menu
  3. In the 'Using a card-reader' section, select 'Order a card-reader' from the drop down menu
  4. Select a reason from the drop down menu
  5. Click 'Confirm'

If you are a Business customer and have a card-reader for NatWest Bankline, unfortunately the reader will not work with Online Banking.

We recommend you only use a card-reader from a source you trust.
