How do I activate my debit card?


  1. Log in to your Online Banking service at www.onlinebanking.natwestinternational.com (opens in a new window)
  2. Select 'Cards' from the main menu
  3. Click on 'Activate a new debit card'
  4. Follow the on screen instructions

If you are not registered for Online Banking, why not sign up today.

Text message

To activate your card quickly and securely, text the following to 00447860009061:

  • Your sort code
  • Your account number
  • The last 4 digits of the card number on the front of your card

Leave a space after each set of numbers e.g. 012345 12345678 1234

Texts will be charged at standard network rates and the information supplied will be used solely for card activation purposes.

Over the phone

One of our Telephony agents will activate your debit card for you. (This services uses the same Security Details as Online Banking)

Please have your customer number and PIN ready as this will enable your call to be answered faster and more securely. These are the same details you use to log in to online banking.
Our Telephone banking service is available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Calls may be recorded.

Please return the card activation slip you received with your debit card.

If you are receiving a replacement debit card you will not need to activate it unless you are also receiving a replacement PIN.
